Good Food Awards - 5Knives Ham VT Raised!

5Knives Ham won a Good Foods Award in San Francisco on January 13, 2012!  



The Vermont Maple Brined, Corn Cob and Maple Wood Smoked Ham was one of one thousand entries and 100 winners across eight categories.  Vermont Smoke and Cure makes the ham with pork from 5Knives' first farmer Greg Finch in Franklin, Vermont.

Greg Finch raises his Berkshire-Chester White pigs on pasture seasonally and feeds them grains ground fresh daily, grown by a neighboring farmer with non-GMO seed.  If you’ve ever tasted bread from fresh-ground wheat, you know it makes a difference.  Pigs eating freshly ground grains taste uniquely great!

All of the farmers raising animals for 5Knives follow farming practices that are sustainable and humane, including the following standards:
  • Raised without any antibiotics or added hormones.
  • Pig tails are not docked and farrowing crates are not used.
  • Pigs roaming on pasture seasonally, or in bedded pack hoop barns during Vermont winters.
5Knives charcuterie are made only with natural spices, with nitrite only from natural sources (without sodium nitrite and so called "uncured”).

5Knives will bring people seeking highest quality meats that from family farms smoked meats and sausages inspired by traditional recipes from around the world, Raised Right in Vermont.  Our family farmers raise their pigs and beef at the highest standards of healthy, humane and environmentally friendly animal husbandry on small farms here in Vermont.
